This morning we start our adventure at Misool Island. The waters surrounding this island teem with fish life and feature over-sized sea fans. The crystal-clear waters surrounding Farondi Island are equally impressive. After lunch snorkel through Tomolol Cave or dive on the outer reef. The Misool Island heli-flight is not to be missed and fishing and sightseeing also feature. In the late afternoon join your favourite adventure boat for a ‘drinks and nibbles’ cruise through the beautiful Karst Islands.
Set off early in Maylibit Bay for a walk along the unique Blue River. The track is surrounded by thick lush jungle growth and there is the possibility of a refreshing swim and, you might even spot an elusive hornbill. Back in the village, the local school children will give you a welcome like no other. Over lunch steam to Kri for an afternoon of diving and snorkelling and the helicopter will reveal the spectacular Fam Group of Islands.
It’s an early start today as the shore parties head into Kri Island and trek through the jungle to see the magnificent red bird of paradise. The adventure boats will offer scenic cruises around beautiful Penemu Island and the Yeben Islands boast even more opportunity for fishing, snorkelling and diving. After lunch it’s time for a cruise highlight. Alfred Russel Wallace was a British naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologist, and biologist. He is best known for independently conceiving the theory of evolution through natural selection and, he conducted extensive fieldwork on the Malay Archipelago. This afternoon you will slip into the coastal channel that bears his name to experience one of True North’s infamous raft ups all whilst surrounded by dense jungle!
After breakfast we visit the pearl farm at Aljui Bay – a chance to purchase a very authentic reminder of your time in a timeless land! We’ll also send the fishing parties out in search of the revered mangrove jack – a great fighter and one of the best tasting fish you can catch! In the afternoon it’s time to take part in a manta ray convention! Plankton rich currents attract large numbers of manta ray to the aptly named Manta Point - a shallow coral ridge surrounded by crystal clear oceanic waters. Jump in and have a swim with these gentle giants of the sea. Dive and snorkel the unbelievably beautiful Equator Islands as we cross the equator and then continue north to the Wayag Islands. At sunset witness the vibrant pink, orange and red skies above beehive shaped islands and turquois water.
In the morning visit the local Research Station or head out to hand feed the harmless black tip reef sharks. Take a stroll along a pristine beach, join a scenic heli-flight over the islands or hop in an adventure boat for some hot fishing action. Wayag’s beehive atolls are totally uninhabited and visually spectacular. The surrounding crystal clear waters reveal the unrivalled underwater biodiversity of the Raja Ampat and, the Wayag’s are also the perfect setting for our “Wayag Beach Party”. Select your place in the sun (or under a shady palm tree) and let the crew entertain with a sumptuous beach picnic and all manner of aquatic toy!
Head out to explore the secrets of Wayag. Take an exhilarating swim in a sea of stingless jellyfish. The currents through Wayag islands create the perfect conditions for a drift snorkel or take one last SCUBA dive surrounded by colourful coral. In the afternoon the beach party will reappear for the last hoo-rah!
Maiden voyage departs in 2018.
