True North’s stellar award year in 2013 continues.

Australia’s premier luxury adventure-cruise ship, the True North, has scooped the ‘Best Expedition or Adventure Cruising Ship’ prize at the prestigious 2013 Australian Gourmet Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards.

The award was presented to North Star Cruises by Catriona Rowntree and Australian Gourmet Traveller editor Anthea Loucas at a dinner at The Conservatory Restaurant at Crown Towers Melbourne earlier this week.

Gourmet Traveller praised the ship for being ‘a genuine expedition cruise that bypasses the tourist routes in favour of steering passengers well off the beaten track’. It was also commented that ‘with 25 years of Kimberley exploration under its hull, no cruise line knows the charms of Australia’s wild-west coastline better than North Star.’

The Gourmet Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards are the most revered luxury travel consumer awards in Australia and celebrate the best of the country’s tourism products and travel experiences.

Peter Trembath, GM at North Star Cruises, said: “We’re thrilled to be recognised as the best luxury adventure-cruise ship in the South Pacific by Gourmet Traveller readers. These reader-voted awards reflect the highest guest satisfaction and we would like to thank everyone that voted for us. We are extremely grateful for our guests’ continuing support.”

“These accolades are also a tribute to the dedication of the attentive North Star Cruises team who all deserve a tremendous pat on the back. We will continue to work hard to deliver impeccable service and exceptional nature based experiences that are life-changing,” adds Peter.

This week’s win is the latest recognition for True North and follows three impressive Luxury Travel Magazine Gold List Awards, won in April 2013. True North also secured a win at the Cruise Passenger Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards in February 2013.

True North pioneered luxury adventure cruising along the Kimberley coast over 25 years ago. Sailings are activity based and access some of the most remote and unspoilt coastal areas of Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea that larger ships cannot enter. The True North experience is unparalleled, courtesy of True North’s on-board naturalists and marine biologists, a ship’s helicopter, six dedicated expedition boats and, a knowledgeable crew of 20 who tend to the every-need of just 36 guests.

2013 accolades recently bestowed on the True North include:

  • Best Small Luxury Cruise Ship at the Luxury Travel Gold List Awards (April 2013)
  • Best Luxury Cruise Company at the Luxury Travel Gold List Awards (April 2013)
  • Best Australian Adventure Experience at Luxury Travel Gold List Awards (April 2013)
  • Best Soft Adventure Cruise at the Cruise Passenger Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards (February 2013)
