Cruise Director

Cruise Director (CD) – Responsibilities / Accountabilities

The Cruise Director role is directly responsible for the comfort and welfare of all passengers as well as all land based and water activities. The CD should consult with the Master & Chief Officer with regards to daily activities. The CD is also head of the hospitality department and is responsible for all hospitality crew. Attention to detail and time management are imperative for this role.

The Cruise Director has the following responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the comfort and welfare of all guests.
  • Timing and co-ordinating all activities occurring in our operation.
  • Act as complaints officer for crew & passengers.
  • Assist in deck and vessel activities.
  • Operating excursion vessels
  • Assist in bar activities as required.
  • Assist ships administrator with breakfast service when possible.
  • Responsible for crowd control during Drills and Musters. Ensuring all guests are present and accounted for in all emergency situations.
  • Responsible for all medical stocks, office stationary and ordering.
  • Allocate cabins and complete passage manifest.
  • Check signup sheets daily and make sure tenders, guides and guests are organized.
  • Liaise with Master and Chief Officer when planning daily schedules and activities.
  • Liaise with the helicopter pilot to organise the following day’s helicopter schedules.
  • Review and update procedures as required.
  • Provide local knowledge of the area and organise entertainment activities.
  • Attend to first aid needs of guests and crew.
  • Promote on board sales for merchandise with SA.
  • Obtain and follow up any cruise interest and potential on board bookings.
  • Dines with guests on a regular basis as the schedule will permit.

Ships Administrator

Ships Administrator (S/A) – Responsibilities / Accountabilities

This role is broad, assisting in many areas of the vessel and requires someone with an exceptional focus on Hospitality and Service while at the same time organising and managing all administration requirements. Attention to Detail and Time Management are imperative as they will be creating their own time schedule to ensure all daily tasks are completed efficiently as well as any additional administrational duties that may be required.

The Ships Administrator has a great focus on sales that must be planned for and actioned.

  • Ordering and liaising with suppliers
  • Stock levels and stock takes on-board for ALL merchandise and monitor galley and bar stock takes.
  • On-board guest, crew and ship accounts
  • Sound knowledge of task pos (account keeping system)
  • On-board sales, jewellery, merchandise, future cruises, lures and bar sales
  • Assist with all helicopter operations
  • Email communications with Broome office and boat.
  • Twitter / Facebook (photo uploads)
  • Internet and phone card sales with knowledge of how these systems work.
  • Ships certifications and crew certifications.
  • Liaise with Chefs and write up daily menu
  • Cleaning of office area daily with a weekly detail

Deck Officer / Guide Job

Deck Officer / Guide – Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Carry out any task as directed by Master/Chief officer in respect to vessel operations.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of passengers and other crew at all times;
  • Responsible for safe and lawful navigation whenever on watch;
  • Responsible for maintaining a navigational log when on watch;
  • Participate in musters and drills as part of vessel emergency response team on a regular basis
  • Maintenance of fishing, diving and other guest recreational equipment
  • Assist in galley operations where required.
  • Maintain crew and guest relations
  • Maintain ship and tenders’ cleanliness
  • Participate in loading/unloading of passengers and cargoes from helicopter
  • Assist in refuelling procedures of tenders and helicopter

Bar Attendant

Bar Attendant (B/A) – Responsibilities / Accountabilities

The Bar attendant is responsible for the ship’s bar and adjoining lounge. The BA is to assist in vessel housekeeping and maintenance as well as ensuring efficient bar service at all times. The BA is to create an enjoyable environment throughout the day and in the evenings.

The Bar Attendant has the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring prompt and efficient bar service is provided
  • Ensuring that the bar is kept well stocked
  • Ensuring the lounge, bar deck, bridge deck crew cabins / bathrooms and wheelhouse are kept clean on a daily basis.
  • Assist in the safe landing of helicopters and passenger embarkation/disembarkation.
  • Assist with monitoring vessel beverage stock levels as required.
  • Responsible for alcohol inventory and ordering.

Naturalist

Naturalist

Ships’ Naturalist – Responsibilities / Accountabilities The primary role of the naturalist is to enhance and add value to the guests experience by delivering information and guided excursions related to the terrestrial and marine ecosystems visited on the North Star cruises. This process should occur through:

  • Formal lectures on board the vessel.
  • Naturalist, dependent on their field of expertise will lead walks & snorkel expeditions. Guided excursions in both the terrestrial and marine environment will include detailed briefings to guests where appropriate.
  • Informal interactions with guests while on-board, especially at meal times, bar snacks and post social gatherings.
  • Naturalist to be available in bar lounge at 5:30pm for interactive photo display and informal talks of day’s activities.
  • Photographic logging of excursions.
  • Naturalist, if required can deliver a brief interactive discussion on all aspects of pearling at 5:30pm on pearl night.
  • Crew training in basic local plants and wildlife, history and culture and simplified principals in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
  • The Naturalist will be accountable to the Chief Officer and liaise with the Cruise Director as to guest’s specific interests, health restraints, and guest expectations.

  • Responsible for the maintenance, operation and recording of all plant and equipment on the vessel
  • Responsible for all vessel bunkering operations
  • Responsible for vessel’s water supply
  • Responsible for Oil Record Book
  • Responsible for compliance with environmental requirements to ensure no breaches in pollution standards
  • Responsible for maintenance of all spare parts required on the vessel
  • Responsible for ensuring the provision of all required chemical substances and the appropriate storage of these substances
  • Generate, update and monitor contractor register in consultation with DPA and chief officer
